Default Darin Intake With The "Tip Soul-Ja" Mod - Replaced My EVO (Hot Air) Intake With Stock Air Box And...

came up with the following airflow numbers via VAG. I did a VAG run after I modded the stock airbox with the Darin Intake + the 'Tip Soul-Ja' enhancement.

I compared this VAG run with the runs that I had in my VAG library for the stock airbox (no mod) and the EVO (my Ghetto version) intake. I replaced my EVO intake last week with the stock airbox.

The 'Tip Soul-Ja' mod of the Darin Intake is basically the addition of the stock snorkel (left over from my EVO set-up)into the hole at the bottom of the airbox. The biggest plus is that it significantly reduces the opportunity for hot engine air to enter the airbox.

After proper adjustment, it sits right above the air slits in the fender (passenger side) liner. Thus, there is no gap between the hole in the bottom of the airbox and the fender liner. The pics below should help illustrate the point.

I noticed a 14 g/s gain from the Darin Intake/Tip Soul-Ja mod to the stock airbox with the an outside temp of 65 degrees in two separate runs with fairly similar fueling. The max g/s on the stock box was 248 (rounding) and the Darin Intake mod yielded 262 (rounding). The EVO ghetto set-up (see my pic poster) yielded 268 g/s (rounding) with an outside temp of 77 degrees.

Statistically, it's a dead heat between the EVO and Darin /Tip Soul-Ja airflow nbrs. Ignition timing appears to be lowest with the Darin/Tip Soul-Ja mod, but other factors could have influence here too (like the temp difference btw the EVO and the Darin/Tip Soul-Ja runs). Anyway, I'm sticking with the Darin Intake/Tip Soul-Ja mod set-up.

My S4 seems to operate quite well under this set-up and I din't have to worry about hot engine air screwing up my timing and overall performance.

Default Darin Intake With The "Tip Soul-Ja" Mod - Replaced My EVO (Hot Air) Intake With Stock Air Box An

That looks good. I might have to try that, once I get the courage to remove the air box again. The Darintake was my first physical mod (GIAC flash, easy), and my scars haven't healed yet. That d@mn bottom clip closest to the firewall is a b!tch.

Default I swear, I must be the only person who doesn't have problems with the airbox clips.

Mine snapped on like a dream. You guys don't beat your cars or anything, do ya?

Default X-1 Racer Intake..They Look Nice..Has Anyone Posted Airflow Nbrs Yet?..I Used The Stock Paper Filter

in the Darin Intake/Tip Soul-ja mod when I got my nbrs. Obviously, I used a cone filter for the EVOMS "ghetto" intake.

I'm thinking about using the ITG filter as an enhancement to the Tip Soul-ja mod, don't know if it will increase g/s significantly. So, the additional effort (of adding the ITG filter) might be statistically meaningless, unless someone posts some airflow nbrs for the X-1 Racer Intake.

Next project: Clean up the hot air intake on the Porsche 951. That will require a custom solution like the X-1 racer intake.

Default First, I Remove The INTACT Airbox From The Engine Bay..Clips Come Off After Removal..When I Put It

back into the engine bay - I snap on the clips - BEFORE putting the airbox back into the place.

Plus, I DO NOT snap the rubber legs back into the grommets (holes) on the rail next to the heat shield. I let the legs sit on top of the holes - this makes it easier to remove the airbox next time.

The result = NO SCRATCHES ON MY HANDS and the airbox still remains FIXED after hooking up the MAF sensor and intake snorkel. There is no play whatsoever.
