Is dealer correct that rotors can't be turned?
My brake pad light came on and the dealer claimes that rotors can't be turned on Audis. Sounds like crap. The car has 45,000 miles on original pads and the front rotors were replaced at 21,000 due to warping. Shouldn't the rotors be fine.
The reason I'm posting is the car is a 2000 and about 8 months past it free scheduled maintence and with 45,000 miles I'm going to try and get them to pay for a large portion of the brake job.
Thanks in advance

turned u mean cut or resurfaced.. ?
this is audi not a saturn , or other crappy car.. so the only way is to change the rotors with new ones.. if u think that too much .. sell the car and get one that fits you.
i had the brakes chaged under warranty (front and rear ..full sets pads and rotors. ( at around 36k miles)

No, the dealer, as usuall, is full of crap! I have turned the rotors on my Audi once and on my VW twice. Don't ever take your car to the dealership for repairs that are not covered under warranty. They lie.

I've been through four sets of rotors...
They usually won't turn them, as they are probably out of spec. But, all four were replaced under warranty...
I'd take them to a good suspension and brake shop to check.

I bought this car brand new and "fits" me just fine. I thought one positive of this forum was to ask fellow S4 owners about possible maintence issues. Just want to make sure I'm not being fed crap but apparently you don't mind.

Some people love to waste money.
It doesn't matter wether you have an Audi or a Ford. All rotors can be resurfaced if they are within tolorances which yours most certainly are. You can even turn them more than once. After a couple of years and often times less the rotors get warped because the new pad materials are so hard and heat up the rotor. I have turned the rotors on my A6 and not even changed the pads because they had 90% material left with no problems. If you want to waste your money then go ahead and replace them every 30K or so. The best way is to learn how to do your own maintanance. Replacing the pads and removing the rotors is one of the easiest things you can do .

Thanks for your post.
I agree completely. I've read up on changing pads and a few steps make me nervous with no real automotive experience. Wish I were more adventurous.
Thanks

don't mind .. but keep the car in good shape..
change things that go bad with new ones , especially brakes.. by cutting (turning, resurfacing) u cut the quality of that rotor in half.. will be thinner and will warp faster next time and bad things can happen.
there should be no cutting corners with this car.
