Default Do I really need/want bigger wheels?

Okay, help me out here. I want to decide whether I need and/or want new wheels.

I going to pick up my Hypercoils/Bilsteins from FedEx tomorrow, so I'm gonna have my first mod on the car. To complete the handling package, I'm definitely going to get S03's when my stock P6000's wear out (if not before then) and I want to know if I should get new wheels at the same time.

Here's what I want:

1) GRIP!!!
2) Tighter turn-in and crisper handling
3) The fattest tires I can fit on the wheel without rubbing (so as to achieve points 1 and 2).

Here's what I don't want:

1) Rubbing (FYI, the Hypercoil/Bilstein setup should drop my car about 1" to 1.5")
2) To roll my fenders
3) Bent wheels (I live in Norcal, roads are not too bad, but could be hazardous for really lightweight wheels)

I don't care about:

1) Comfort
2) Noise
3) Looks

I'll be driving the car on the street %95 of the time, with autocross events to come later on after I've been through some driving schools.

If I get new wheels, I'm going to go with an 8" width, and I know for sure that I don't want to get a 19" diameter wheel.

So here's my question: should I go with a 17" or 18" diameter?

I've been having similar thoughts. I want to reduce unsprung weight, so I'll probably stay with 17"
