Does anyone have a picture of the chip if I were to be soldering it myself?

I can solder surface mount just fine... but i always like to know what I'm getting into before I get into it.

Default Thanks! Now, does anyone know of surface mount ZIF sockets that match this form factor?

I've actually worked with a bunch of ZIF sockets intended for surface mount parts (They're used on motherboards a lot lately for the BIOS... at least on development boards).

I can probably look it up if someone can give me a packaging style (and pin spacing if it's not too much?)

The socket I'm talking about completely envelopes the chip (imagine a large clam shell) and then locks shut. My thinking behind this is that it would make swapping out ECU's not as bad if I didn't want to order a completely different ECU. Thoughts? I'd love to hear feedback on this.

If you want to be able to switch, get the EMCS from APR, or Garrett's switchable chip.

Default My .02 (m)

My past experience with surface mount sockets (read: sockets for surface mount parts) has been terrible. Other than to prototype with in a nice vibration free environment they don't work. I can only imagine it would be a trip or two in the car before a pin popped loose and the car would stall/not start.

The sockets might have gotten better in the last few years, but I wouldn't risk it.
