Default Does the engine really need to come out to remove the bank-2 cylinder head? :-/

Mr. Bentley says it does. They describe a procedure where the exhaust manifold is unbolted from the turbo and then comes out with the head.

So is it actually possible to remove the bank-2 cylinder head without removing the engine?

No, I've done it without removing the engine.

Do you remove the exhaust manifold with the head or seperate them and leave the manifold in the car?

Default At that time, I left the manifold with the car. Eventually removing it altogether with the engine

still in the car. I was trying to track the root cause of a problem out and knew i was going to end up pulling the engine eventually. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get the exhaust manifold reseated to the head or vice-versa with the engine still in the car as i put them back in attached.

Default Do you think the manifold would come out with the head if left attached?

I guess that would still be the easier way if it can be done. According to Bentley, the manifold attaches with three bolts to the turbo. I presume these are reachable while the engine is in the car.

Default Agreed. They should rename the car: "Bish S4". :-p

Anyway, thanx for the input. :-)
