Default driving observations and feedback

I'm the new owner of an '01 Avant with 46k miles. Previously the owner of an a4 1.8 avant, sport pkg. I drove the s4 before I bought it, but not real extensively, so now I find it feels much different than the a4. Specifically, the suspension is firmer of course, but over small irregularities it feels like it wants to wonder. Hmmm difficult to describe, but I guess I asking if the s4 should feed essentially the same as the a4.

Secondly, my a4 did not have ESP, which I really liked, 'cause I could control the amount of sliding and wheel spin to produce the desired result,..and even with the ESP disabled, the s4 dosen't feel like it delivers the power to the wheels in the same manner. Do you all know if, when disabled, the drivetrain operates the same as the older a4 with no esp?

Sorry for the long ramble and very ambiguous sounding questions, I'm just a neurotic, but happy, new owner.

Rich

Default Suspension on S4 should be firmer than A4.

ESP is never completely off. You can only make it take one step back.

I had a 2.8 A4 with sport package and agree the S4 suspension is a bit firmer. I haven't noticed the wandering you mentioned over small irregularities with mine. This might be related to the tires you have.

Enjoy the new car!

Default Wandering could also be due to poor alignment...

My car wandered after getting a new suspension installed. The toe was out excessively causing the car to feel unstable in a straight line at high speeds. It cornered incredibly though

Got a good alignment and it was all good after that.

Default Re: Could be the tires.....

Are you running with stock tires? Those cruddy Pirelli P6000? I know what you are talking about my car '02 S4 Sedan feels like its pulling left and right if the road is not 100% level. Since i live in the NE this is not usually the case, i read also on tirerack that P6000's tramline, which makes the car feel like it wants to drive itself. my conclusion was the tires are dooky and is causing the problem but the car still corners like a beast. You will get used to this real quick or do like i am doing, get new tires, just my personal suggestion.
