Default Dyno Test Results - Long

I will post additional details at a later time, but I thought everyone would benefit from some hard numbers. I had the opportunity to run my car on the Dynapack Chasis Dyno today at High Marques (Thanks Tom) and the results are very interesting.

First, a baseline was established using my stock ECU (2000 6-speed). The only non-factory mod was the installation of new spark plugs designed for the Porsch 993 (triple tip). Other than that the car had no mechanical changes. (I have had an MTM 2nd generation ECU in the car for over a year. It was installed with 12k on the clock and the car now has 28k.) The following are the SAE correct "at the wheel" peak figures:
HP 197 @ 5358rpm
Torque 227 @ 2750
Boost 6.2 PSI @ 4275

Now for the mod: With all else being equal and only the reinstallation of my MTM 2nd generation ECU I can report the following:
HP 256.10 @ 5100rpm
Torque 311.6 @ 3350
Boost 17.65 @ 3200

As I said, I will provide more detail at a later time but I want to point out a few things.
1 - Using the baseline of 197 HP it would appear that the peak of 256.10 is eaqual to approx 320 HP at the flywheel (197/.8 =247 so 256.10/.8 = 320)
2 - I have made no other mods (other than the upgraded spark plugs) to get this increase.
3 - The car has run like a top for nearly 30k (16k of which has been with the MTM chip). The only non-scheduled repair has been the throttle body boot last week.
4 - The value of using a dyno has been proven to me. We made six runs and made small changes each time. The only way to tell if you are spending your money right is to make controlled tests. I think you will find that many cliams can not be backed up with hard numbers.
5 - Be sure to have a professional work on your car. Tom Shive (973-984-3800 High Marques Motor Werks) is great. Even though Audi offers free service, I have been using Tom and the results speak for themselves.

Thanks to Steve D'Gerolamo as well (Ultimate Garage 201-262-0412). Anyone who has been working on their car and wants to confirm that the dollars and time are worth it should find their way to a dyno!

I look forward to your comments.

W.G.

By the way I have also done the H&R Springs with Koni shocks, UUC short shifter and BBS CH 18x8.5 with Pilot Sports (225/40) since the last time I posted. I don't think my signiture includes this.

Posting the dyno charts later would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
