Engine miss at idle
I want to chip my engine but before I do I think I need to get it running properly.
I have noticed a slight miss at idle. This is confirmed by my VAG-COM Tool. I also consistently see the following errors:
17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
P1557 - 35-00 - -
16487 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too High
P0103 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
My first response was to change the spark plugs (now Bosch Platin F5DP0R) but that did not make a difference. The errors never grow to the point of getting a check engine light.
The car is quite high mileage. The slight miss wasn't there when I got the car but developed after.
So anyone have any suggestions where I start to look? My own guess would be that the MAF probably needs to be replaced. Is that reasonable?
Thank you. :-)

Re: Engine miss at idle
If you engine has codes it can create more problems the ECU is throwing a fit. but you do have that positive Deviation code which means you probably have a leak somewhere .. Like Slick said test for leaks dood

Slick (and you) give excellent advice!
Did a little research here on how to pressurise the system and just returned from my local plumbing supply place ($9 - what is this world coming to?). I will build a contraption and pressure test the system a.s.a.p.
I think you are both right. It has to be a leak or the MAF. The misses don't seem to be associated with any particular cylinder so I don't think it is the coil packs. Seems like mixture related.
Anyway, I'll let you both know the results as soon as I know. Thank you!

Just a word of caution with that pressure tester. I found this out the hard way, the dealer overfilled my oil and I pressure checked the car. Somehow the oil worked its way into somewhere and the car was burning oil like crazy!! I would get a pressure regulator and a pressure guage so you can see how much pressure you are applying to your car. I also had to caulk the back of the pressure checker where the sewer cap went into the rubber sewer hose it was leaking there. Also get a bottle of soapy water and a sprayer nozzle pressurize the system and spray the soap on the cracks between the hose and the pipe see if it bubbles that will help you find leaks faster.

Good advice!
I'd already decided to cement the end-cap into the hose before I clamped it. I can see that will be a problem. I guess your oil was forced up the breather into the intake and then out the exhaust into the catalytic converter? Probably...
I have a good pressure regulator intended for paint work. Pretty easy to set it to 1 bar.

Did you cap off the pcv dampner??
I did it the uncapped way and blew oil all the way down the freeway afterwards. I capped the plastic nub off of the y-pipe and did another test. That time there was no burnt oil.
