Engine revs high on tick over

Have a 2000 model b5 s4.When on tick over revs are stickin at about 1300-1400 rpm an wont drop.Can do this for few days or so then cures itself for few days then comes back again.Can anyone help please.???

tick over? you mean when you first start the car?

sounds like it's in warm-up mode too long. check your coolant temp sensor.

also check the car for any codes.

"Tick over" is IDLE in Great Britian etc.....
