Default Engine sound of S-4 after cold start

Anyone know why the engine almost sounds like a truck when starting up after sitting overnight. It goes away about 40 seconds later when rpms settle to about 750-800 rpms.

Default Probably oil drains out of the lifters and it takes a minute or so to pump them back up.

I can't judge the noise level from your message, but it could be a bad/leaking backflow valve in your oil filter. Not a serious problem, if that's it. Some clatter at start is normal.

Default Make sure you use the OEM (Audi) oil filter. It's common for the jiffy-lube brand to leave out

the one way valve that keeps oil in the engine when it's shut off.

It sounds bad, but my Nissan pick-up has the same problem and it's survived several years so far.

I thought about installing a pre-luber pump...but it's hard to justify for a $500 truck.

Default I had this...

when the car was brand new, about every third start or so, from delivery miles (130) until I changed it (mobil 1 0-30) at 2800. the clatter in my case was defintely the lifters bringing up pressure. after i changed the oil it went away for a while, now it's back.
BUT, mine lasts only for a second or so- when i first start the car up the revs quickly go to 1800 or so, and by the time the engine is slowing down everything is normal. i would say 40 seconds of lifter clatter is VERY long... it bugs me, but i've been told by my service advisor that i shouldn't worry...
