Default Engine support bridge needed?

Bentley manual calls for engine support bridge (10-222A1) to be used while pulling out the engine. I can't see what it's actually helping since the hoist will be lifting the engine anyways. Does anyone know if the bridge is really required? Cheapest I can find is $150.

Thanks.

i cant find any photos on a quick google search, but from the name it sounds like its to help level the motor while pulling it out. probably not necessary to use, but might be helpful. i found a super cheap leveler with chains from one of those cheap tool stores for something like $40 probably 6 years ago

You might need a jack to free one of tranny mounts since the engine will tilt one way or another but other than that a simple hoist levelling bar will do. I bought this one and it worked like a charm:

$22.95 out of the door.

This is the cheapest I could find a quality one, you can always buy some junk from ebay I guess...
