Default euro S4 print advertisement (pic)

<center><img src="http://131.107.68.28/a4org/klhi-uk-s4-add.jpg"></center><p>This was scanned in from "THe Audi Magazine", a publicaiton of Audi UK intened to self-promote. I picked this up at an Audi Dealer in England. I will scan in somemore of the stuff I got from my trip to Europe when I learn to use the scanner properly and get some free time on my hands. Enjoy.

PS: could anyone give me some photoshop pointers on how to improve the quality of this image? I just bought a new scanner (MicroTek SlimScan C6, BTW) and my scans the low-quality displayed in thsi image. It seems like something I could easily compensate for to make better images. Any help out there please?

Default Re: euro S4 print advertisement (pic)(Ick!)

The white balance is way off on this picture. go into image and adjust levels.
after you get a uniform level set you can now see that your scanner is banding quite badly.
Check your connection to your scanner if it is scsi make sure it is terminated.
if it keeps banding try to lock the scanner and then unlock it to try and fix it.
Also when scanning try to overscan your images and then strip away the information(ie.size color etc.) you are far better starting with too much information than not enough. P.S. just got on list for S4 and order will go in November.
waiting waiting waiting.

Default scanning, from a graphic designer

First of all, despite the 600x1200ppi claimed resoulution on your Microtek, you're never going
to get great scans from that low cost a scanner, the scan head is just not that good. That's what
is causing those colored lines I believe (in a CCD scanner that would indicate "jittery" movement
while the scan head was moving across the image. Second problem is the fact that you are
scanning something that was printed. The halftone pattern is confusing the scanner, that is to
say since the printed "image" is just a series of dots (look close) the scanner has difficulty
resolving the spacing of each individual dot. In areas where they probably use a continuous
saturation of ink, like in the red Audi logo, you get a better scan. If you scan anything
continuous tone ( a photograph, or something real, like a leaf) it will come out better. An old
trick with printed stuff is to "oversample" that is scan at a really high resolution, then in
Photoshop bring the resolution back down to your desired setting (72ppi for web images).
Photoshop will resample the image better than your scanner and blend the dots back to
continuous tone (you may need to play with sharpening filters to get it perfect).

Soory so long winded and off-topic, but this may help others with scanning problems too.
