Default Finished Vogtland C/O install, but had a problem and need advice...

I got the fronts installed last weekend at the Sacramento GTG at Kevin's. I did the rears tonight. Overall, things went well, but I had a problem reinstalling the driver side shock housing. I managed to strip the first few threads of the left 2 bolts that hold the housing to the car. The right two are OK, but the left two won't engage. I can't tell for sure, but I think I messed up the first few threads on the bolt holes also. I don't have tools or experience tapping threads, so I plan to bring the car to my local Audi tech to have him recover my screwup. I am not sure if I should have the car towed or drive it. If I drive, I would go slowly and put as little stress on the suspension as possible. Has anybody else run into this? Any other suggestions to try? Thanks...

I guess you don't wanna buy a Tap and Die set...

I am not sure I could use it. Is it pretty straight forward?

Default I wouldn't drive it without either of the left bolts on there.

You'd undoubtedly stress the housing connection, and may damage the other two bolts. Get a tap/die set and go to town. It's fairly easy - just line it up straight and go slowly.

Thanks. I guess now is the time to learn to use a tap/die set.

easy as pie, especially as the threads are already there. use some wd40 or machine oil as lube

Default I think next time you better leave the install to the pros! Sucks to hear you had THAT...

much of a problem. You definately need to be patient with these cars and make sure bolts are threaded before you go torque-in away. Hope you get it resolved easily. And a tap-n-die set is ALWAYS good to have.

Default Yes. As long as you have a nice straight shot at the threaded hole...

You can also do the bolts.

drop me an email if you need help.
