cars don't drive themselves and the ones that put down good magazine numbers don't necessarily win real-world races.

Advertising this car as a 4.7/13.3 car was a big mistake IMHO...it's going to be nothing but a disappointment after that.

I read a VERY GOOD post over on the 996 board from a guy who had a 2001 996 and a 2001 E46 and he and a buddy did a number of side by side 0-60 and 1000 ft runs (he didn't have the room for safe 1/4 mile runs).

He says the M3 was generally fractionally faster but they were G-teching high 4.9s to low 5.1s 0-60 and didn't have a good 1/4 time.

That's the most reasonably trustworth info I've seen. I think the lack of an LSD on the 996 probably hurts it.

Given the generally poor performance of Corvettes I've seen at dragstrips I'd be REALLY curious.

they use EDL..just like the S4...but they call it ABD (active brake diff)

How does brakes emulate LSD effect?
 

LSD as limited slip diff we are talking about..

When exiting corners it locks up so both wheels and output power. Makes it harder to turn since the outside wheels isn't allow to spin much faster then the inner wheel but helps to put complete power down on exit. I don't see how brakes can achive this.

individual wheel braking..NOT both at the same time..that's how ABS works

no LSD on the 996s...weird huh.

I think we are talking about 2 very different things here...
 

The LSD I'm thinking is this...
it isn't used to help prevent spin-out. Its used to make both inner and outer wheel spin the smae amount during accelration or deccel depending on 1-2way.
