Default follow up on bypass valve failure

I went for a ride with the Audi mechanic. He did not hear anything out of the ordinary, but offered to test the bypass valves anyway. Both vavles failed the test and he replaced them right away under warranty.

I also asked him about the 710N. He said he's heard of people using those in S4s but did not recommend it because he would have to explain why he put in the wrong part under warranty. He also said that the TTs (which use 710N) also have a high failure rate.

Default He wouldn't recommend it because *he* would have to explain it?

Doesn't sound like a well-reasoned "recommendation" to me. Sounds like he's just covering his own ****.

Default I'd bet a half a years salary that 99.999% of Audi techs would not know that a 710N..........

was not stock if you handed them a BPV and asked them if it was stock.

Default They log every part they use, especially for warranty work...

and he would have to justify using the TT part in an S4. I can understand his postition.

Whether the TT part is better than the S4 part is another question. His position was that he has seen many failed TT bypass valves. So, he really saw no reason to use the TT part. By the way, he said they sound different when they fail... I think he said something like a rattling sound.

Default I understand his position, but, what he's saying just doesn't seem to be the reality..........

of what we all see.

Do a search. Someone did a BPV failure test, Piggie maybe?

Most people's experience is that 710Ns are better than stock, even at stage III power.

There may be some issue re: 710N vs. aftermarket (ie: Baileys, etc...) and even then, I think lots of people are still happy with their 710Ns.

The only people who aren't happy with the 710Ns are people who spent money on aftermarkets and resellers. (Well, I should say, there are probably a few people who have had probs with 710Ns so I shouldn't generalize that much)
