gauging interest--who would be interested in upgraded gears?

semi dogs in gears 1-3 or 1-4 and standard gears in the upper gears for quiet highway cruising! as our cars come out of warranty and our modifications become more radical, we all know what the weak link is and will be...

Sorry for asking you something unrelated...

but could you tell us some of the differences between the S4 and RS4 engines (besides plumbing imporovements afforded by the increased width of the RS4)? Would a conversion be fairly strightforward (ie just replace a couple of things like the turbos and heads) or are there very fundamental design differences that would require a complete swap to make it work?

As far as the gears are concerned... could you tell some of the less knowledgable here (including me), what the benefits of what you're proposing are and approximate prices?

as far as i know...

Th RS4 has different intake manifold/intake plumbing/bigger intercolers/cosworth ported heads/KO4 turbos/different gear ratio in I believe 3rd or 4th gear, but the bottom end is the same-as for a conversion a chipped S4 has been shown in acceleration testing to be the equal to a stock RS4(in street testing 0-60) once you hit 3rd gear the RS4 will walk away due to its higher flow heads and bigger turbos...the gears will replace the prone to failure 1-2-3 gears and synchros with straighter cut or straight cut gears(clutchless/semi-clutchless shifting)these gears are much stronger than stock-as for price i could not fathom a guess at this point but if interest is there i could find out...

hmm, 2nd whines on mine anyway... :) might as well go straight cut

I'd be interested at a later date, assuming I can afford it.

I'd like it as a option should anything fail and give an opportunity to upgrade.

me. please email me if you have info!

Why?, do you think the (105 J) 1st gear is not strong enough?

*IF*, this is accuurate

then we have the wide cut 1st gear that the RS2's had

it's just not Hardened<ul><li><a href="http://elektro.cmhnet.org/~charlie/photos/cars/01E/trans.html">http://elektro.cmhnet.org/~charlie/photos/cars/01E/trans.html</a></li></ul>

the way it looks to me...

is 1st gear is fine but 1-2 would have to be repaired as a set as well as 3-4...5th and 6th could remain stock...1st gear isnt the known problem, its the synchros into 2nd etc. what i would like to see is a hardened semi dog in the first 4 gears where you could clutchless shift when rev matching but could still use the clutch for everyday driveability...i know of a company that was asked by champion audi to build the gearsets for the speedvision cars but is not into one offs, but if it were feasible it could be a sellable kit it could be pursued...my point is many of us are going to be going to the next level with the car(power wise) and as many cars are coming out of warranty i see this as a viable and better option than having to reuse factory parts...this is one instance where the tuners AWE/APR/AMS etc as well as the race teams champion/Istook/vortrag should work together and get it done at a reasonable price point and have parts to offer...
