GEICO and track events (long)...
I recently moved to Texas and need to switch over my insurance (came from MA which has gov't regulated insurance).
Just to set the stage for my little story, before I went to my first track event last month, I called my current insurance company and asked whether or not I would be covered. They calmly checked the policy and determined that I would be covered, so long as it was NON-TIMED and NON-COMPETITIVE. Okay, good.
So in my quest for new insurance, I called GEICO, who came recommended by several friends. I go through a full quote with them, get a good rate and I'm just about ready to sign-up when I ask the guy if the policy will cover NON-TIMED NON-COMPETITIVE track events. Note the magic words in caps - thats exactly how I put it.
He says he'll have to check with the underwriting dept, puts me on hold, comes back like 5 minutes later and says that not only is it NOT covered by the policy, but that because I told him that, they will no longer underwrite me, period. HA!
FWIW, I have no tickets or accidents on my record. They refused to cover me just because I asked about track events.
I told him thanks for his time and that I would clearly be taking my business elsewhere.
I'm not sure how to proceed with other companies, because I definitely want to make sure that a new policy will cover me on the track, but I don't want to be denied coverage just for saying that I might take my car on the track.
PS - If you're really observant, you'll notice I took my last name out of my AW account name. Now I'm paranoid! :-(

I guess you were talking to a rookie on the phone.
They are such a thing as "I'll ask for you but I'll just say its a random question."
If you could do this face to face with a person and let him/her know what you want it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually, I think Texas has "standard language" in the insurance and
when I read through it, I didn't see any exceptions... even if you were racing the car in the Indy 500. If the standard language thing is true, every policy should cover it.
That said, I may be wrong and I won't be covering any of your losses....so check it out yourself.
