Default GIAC Tip Chip Owners...does your Tip ...

when you have the throttle at least half or more, during shift, seem like it shifts, then a hesistation, then another shift feel again?

Just installed the GAIC Tip mod today and noticed this behavior when jumping on it good.

Hard to describe, but it shifts into the next gear, then it does this weird hesitation thing and seems ..and starts to pull hard again.

Again, I only notice this when I am pushing it harder.

Put a GIAC ECU and GIAC Tip chip in at the same time.

Shifts normal with less than half throttle and not really pushing it at all. But mash it down, weird shifting.

Thanks

Default I have mine recoded to 00032...

dont notice that at all...it shifts and pulls. HOWEVER I have a slight slam from 5 to 4 if on the throttle at all and the infamous 2 to 1 "thunk" if Im not paying attention in stop and go traffic.

I dont have the tip chip yet and may not for a while if im paying for new turbos

Default Are you talking about 5-4 then go back to 5?

If so, its gear hunting. Normal for Xchip.

No, every gear shifting. GIAC Tip Chip is supposed to fix that 4-5 hunting issue.

Default I think what you're describing is...

the two ECU's conversing. IIRC, the tranny ECU sends a signal to the engine ECU to cut throttle (partly), then shifts, and when the clutch packs are locked up, it sends a signal to go back to full throttle. After the new gear is engaged, the tranny takes a second (or so) to finish its business, then you feel full throttle again. Full throttle while the clutches are slipping would burn them up.

Of course, I could be wrong-

Default My experience (FWIW)...

Cruising in 5th gear, the transmission will downshift to 4th when reaching 10-12 psi of boost during acceleration. If you lift, it will shift back to 5th (hunting). If you continue to the floor, kickdown occurs and it will shift to 3rd. Mash the pedal to the floor and it will shift directly from 5th to 3rd. This is with both GIAC X and GIAC Tip chips installed. With the stock ECU, the trans (with both stock and GIAC TCMs) does not do the part-throttle 5-4 shift, since the boost never reaches the 10-12 psi range. Not sure what criteria (torque, boost, etc) the computers are using to generate the 5-4 shift but it can be annoying. If I know I need to accelerate, I manually drop the trans into 4th to make the behavior more predictable.

Default That would describe exactly what happens if that is the case....more..

Just want to hear if others with this have the same thing to determine if it is "normal"...

Thanks

Really, that is what two different tuners told me, including AWE.
