GODDAMN TREE-HUGGIN', HIPPIE SCUMBAGS!!
well it's official, all the stations within 10 miles from me, except one
went to 91 AKI for premium this morning..
and the last one (Texaco), will switch as soon as his tanks are empty
turns out that the real reason for the octane drop from 92,
is that the state of Kalifornia..
has set limits on the acceptable amount of MTBE that can be present in our gas
(MTBE is the main octane enhancer used in RFG II CA gasoline)
now I don't don't how UnoCal 76, is able to make 100 ocatane unleaded for sale...$5/gal
maybe there's a tax or tariff, for using above a certain amount of MTBE
or maybe they enhance the Octane some other way
anyways the chipped cars will run "OK" for the most part, but it's defintely something your "butt-dyno" can feel..
god only knows what the next heatwave will do to performance
we really need to start a phone and letter writing campaign, with the Gasoline companies..
complaining about how our cars run worse and our gasmileage has dropped
(internet petitions aren't worth the paper, that they AREN't written on)
*not a happy camper*

there was a story on a local TV news station the other night...
they claimed that the switch from MTBE to ethanol is to blame. Something about ethanol requiring less volume than MTBE and that more gas would be consumed as a result... so, in the "intersts of averting a gas shortage, they are reducing the octane rating."
Does that make sense?

They should just use Toluene instead of MTBE...
probably not as "efficient" (amount of toluene needed to raise octane levels versus amount of MTBE needed) - but it's bound to be "safer" (or at least more accepted
*sigh*
I think I should just go buy a 55gal barrel of Toluene... ;-)

There are some Green peace ***** on the corner want me to go down there and kick thier arshes??
Dude If you only knew what CARB was up to. They want to require automakers to sell so many Hybrid cars in CA. If they don't there are supposed to be serious penalties. How the hell can auto makers make people by those things?
