Default It was a good day...(long)

The morning started out wet and rainy, and my son and I headed down to a VW bus show in H.B. I had forgotten that the Euro/Porsche show was also happening down at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.

Merging with the 22 from the 57 I half spied a late model 911 (could have been an early 993, but I think it was older) with a big whale tail on my left. I was just cruising when he rockets up next to me and paces me. Then boom, he bolts and I couldn't contain myself... I follow. He got a car length jump on me, but I closed that since I was in 4th. I was glued to his bumper and he could not shake me. On up to 105 or so and then I backed off due to traffic. It was fun...never thought I'd keep up with a 911. Even though it had a big turbo whale tail, I'm sure it was just a turbo look N/A car.

Went to the show and got rained on, saw some friends and old busses and then took off for the Euro show/swap (anybody else go?) Cool cars, cool parts. I need a lesson on what Porsche brakes would work on our cars. I saw at least 3 sets of brakes that looked promising.

Later in the afternoon I had a little run in with an S2000 with two "typical" owners if you get my <cough>rice<cough> drift. I'm in front and I hear massive revs and they zoom up behind me. Red S2000 with an exhaust and 19's with the top down. The passenger is holding a large toaster oven box in his lap...it sticks up over his head. We hit a light with another light about 2 blocks ahead...no traffic. He revs a bunch and I look over...so does my son in the car seat(I know, I'm a bad dad...he did say "lets go daddy") and I smile...the kid driving just stares straight and revs again.

The light goes green and I got a semi good launch and am 2 cars ahead stretching to about 4 before I know it. The red is coming up fast so I blinker to the right in front of him as I have to turn right at the light. As I slow he does a flyby and I look over. His passenger has his head buried beneath the toaster oven hiding and the driver won't even look at the old guy in the station wagon with the kid in the car seat that just gave him the smack down. I turn right and run hard up to the next light and he finally catches up and we are next to each other. I roll down the window and ask them what mods they are running "uh all stock" mutters the guy. I say "oh...me too. Have a nice day" They slink away left. Priceless.

I know many will say baby seal, but hey, I'm all stock power wise. Was the 911 just playing with me or will a stock S4 keep up? Did I mention I love rainy days :-)

Sounds fun. You might want to try to contain your right foot with a kid in the car though.

I don't consider the S2000 a baby seal. No tq but they're quick cars. Nice writeup.
