My friend did something similar over a parking space in the North End in Boston
 

I have two friends that just moved there and they were about to swap their two cars from a space on the street (which are very hard to find for those of you who don't know). Well, a guy who was waiting to find a spot informed them that he was going to take the space when the first car left and not let my other friend take the space. Arguments and yelling ensued until friend1, says "I'm leaving - I don't care" and heaves his 250+ pounds opening his door (which was an already heavily dinged door on a leased car which was being turned in a week later) into the a-hole's passsenger door and pretty much bent it in half.
They guy was gone when they returned 20 minutes later.

Why, because he was driving a M3?

Totally the wrong action to take.. (long and somewhat legal)
 

As we all have, I have been right there on the frustration scale, ready to rip the head off of the idiot who dinged me.. BUT.. this is completely the wrong thing to do.. for many reasons... 1 your safety, and 2 your criminal record!

1. Other posters have noted the possibility of the truck driver packing a weapon - may be true.. but also note that he is as irrational as you are.. not a good mix.. back off.

And 2. I am no lawyer, but if the truck driver in this story called the cops, he could have had the BMW driver arrested for Criminal Mischief - causing intentional damage to the vehicle, and if the B&lt;W driver swore at him, another stupid charge, like breach of peace.. In other words, the BMW driver would have been at the stationhouse, and the pickup driver would have walked away..

The correct action to have taken- Call the police, I see many rants about being pulled over for speeding and such on this board.. why not use the police for what they are there for - intervention in a difficult or dangerous situation. Call the police, and have them fill out an accident report.. then pursue the pickup drivers insurance company directly (not through your own insurance where you will incur a deductible) If the driver is uninsured, the police will deal with that right there.. and you can always go to small claims court WITH your police accident report to make a claim..
