Default Got in a small accident, think the body shop is jerking me around and need some advice

I rearended a truck at about 15 mph and it cracked my bumper, and pushed my grill into my radiator and air conditioning unit. In any case, my car was flatbedded to the body shop (a reccomeneded one I might add) and the initial estimate was $3,600 for a new hood, bumper, radiator (or at least one of the parts dealing with the radiator), air conditioning condensor, and grill. Obviously there are some misc parts like clipts, etc, and labor and paint are included. After I told the body shop I would be paying for this with a check as my insurance is very high and there was no damage to the car I hit, my estimate went up to $5,800, after a rep from the Audi dealer came to look at my car (I have no idea of the reason for that). Anyway, I want to make sure I'm not getting jerked around since I'm in college and may not have any idea what the cost of parts for the S4 is. However, an additional $2,000+ on my original estimate seems like a lot, especially after the guy told me that $3,600 was probably "high" as he would rather start out high and subtract from the estimate as opposed to starting low and having to add to it. Any help on this is much appreciated.

Phil

Default I had almost the exact accident...

except some jackass backed into the front of mine. The repairs came to $2800. Although, they fixed my hood. It sounds like you should go get a few more quotes. Good luck!

Default Realize that many body shops have rate contracts with various insurance companies, and if they are

paying the rates are less than if you are paying (just like getting an insurance rental through say Enterprise vs you walking in off the street and renting the same car - you'll pay mare $ per day than if it goes thru ins. co.).

This could be one reason it went up. Just something to keep in mind...

Default same accident 2 months ago, total came to 5800 dollars

needed a new radiator, ac, hood, they repainted the bumper (it wasnt cracker or damaged) and new headlights, blended fenders to match paint, also needed new radiator mount as it was cracked in the middle.
