the new body style convertable, he was fast and pulled away from me . It was hard to tell exactly there was some traffic. The other looked to be mid 90's. With some stupid personalized plate "fizzbuzz" or something like that can't remember. His was definately louder then the first. I let him start in front, he didn't like it when I pulled up next to him. Both cars were on the highway, so we started around 70mph or there abouts.

Default C4 Vettes ran from '84-'96 and vary from ...

... about 250hp to 335hp. They run anywhere from mid 14s (80s L98 cars) to high 12s ('96 LT4 cars) and everywhere in between. The LS1 C5s ('97-current) are [under]rated around 345(?)hp. A good driver on a sticky track will bust off 12.70s in a C5.

I had an '01 Trans Am (same motor - LS1) that ran 12.76@110 with a pair of drag radials and a cold air intake (600 miles on the car

Default Yeah, unless you know the little idiosyncrasies (?)...

... with each model year, it's tough to know the difference. In general, the L98 cars are dogs, the LT1/4 cars are pretty quick and the LS1 cars are fast :-)

I don't know them. I do know that after the first one he looked over and smiled, I waved. The second I looked over and smiled, he just frowned and moved over a lane.

Default Oops...

I forgot about the ZR1s. They were the William B. Anus (aka billy-bad-*** :-) ) C4 Vettes with the DOHC 32V V8 in them. They're easy to spot with the superwide rear ends, 11" rear wheels and ZR1 badging. HP ranged from 375-405, depending on year, if my memory serves me correctly :-)

Default ZR-1 spotter's guide (know the enemy)

The 1990 ZR-1 was the first C4 to have squarish tailights. Later, (I think 1992) all C4's converted and went to the same design.

The difference is that on the regular cars, the third, high-mounted stoplight was integrated into the rear fascia above the license plate. On the ZR-1, the third stoplight is up high, above the hatch glass. Also, as mentioned above, look for the wider *** of a ZR-1, w/ 315/35/17 meats.
