Has anybody ever solved the 3rd gear pop-out problem.
I originally thought it was just me missing the shift and leaving it in neutral, but I'm now positive that I pushed to shifter completely into third.....and that it popped back out prior to my clutch release.
This only happens at the worst possible moment (at the track) and is a real PITA. I eventually switched over to holding the shifter until the end of the braking zone and doing the clutch release and starting the turn with one hand on the wheel.
I'd prefer not to learn this stop-gap shifting technique too well. I know that others have had this problem at the track, but I never saw any resolution posted.
Anyone know anything about how to avoid this? I imagine good heel/toe technique would help, but I'm a long way from doing that on the track.

Sweet! Its not just me!!!
I thought it was just cause I don't have mad rowin skillz.
I've had it happen in 2nd too. I think its legitimately not engaged, but something about the mechanism makes it sure feel like it did.

Hmmm, coming into the carousel at TWS gives you a tranny problem, eh?
It did to me and Don P. too; I also experience it at the end of the infield straight at TMS where as soon as I hit the 3rd gear rev limiter and then pounce on the brakes for the upcoming turn, it pops out of gear too. It's time for the advanced driveline stabilizer!

Acutally, I was.
I was taking turn 2 in 4th (though probably not as fast as you), and was downshifting into third gear in the braking zone before turn 3.
One time, I downshifted, re-engaged the clutch, and was just starting to power through the turn when it popped out of gear.

And I swear I engaged it fully -- it was a clean downshift.
Doesn't Rodger's original post above state that this was happening to him after a downshift?

For me, Don and a couple others, we can be in 3rd gear the whole time...
...it seems to happen as engine load on the tranny ceases and extreme weight transfer happens for braking at the track. At TWS, there are elevation changes going into the carousel while under braking that seem to trigger the problem (braking from 80mph-45mph, but staying in 3rd). At TMS, it seems to happen after hitting the rev limiter in 3rd, whereupon you go to the brakes about a half-second later for a 50mph 3rd gear right hander.
