Has anyone had success in Solo II (AS) with an S4?

Well, 19th out of 42 rookies my first time out...
not as bad as I expected to do. I had never been on a track or in any kind of race before.
The car gripped well through the turns, but the drive (ahem) was not very smooth in cornering. I could have used NASA Racer's tips in apexes back then (this was April)!
Also, Solo II just happens so darn fast! I think there were something like 30 turns on the course and my times we like 1'50". So you have a lot of car to swing in between all those cones...
It was fun, but I think the S4 is better suited to regular track races as it is better at speed than at agility (at least stock).
The Miatas just kick a$$ in Solo II!!!!!

nyr/nnjr solo II
well, as it stands with the currant classing, the S4 just can't get it done.its not like its completely out of the running. its right in there, but the s2000's are real quick(when driven correctly and r's are warm) and the E36 M3 will give u a run for ur money. but if it rains, you are good to go.
however, next year when the SsSs goes to DS(i believe) it will be better. then it will going against the old GS car to have...the integra type-r.

It's outclassed in Stock and Street Prepared
It is too heavy, sloppy and slow for its size in its current stock and street prepared classes. Look for Boxsters or S2000's to win AS; Miatas and RX3's to dominate it in CSP. Street Mod is viable (hell, I'm betting on it), but you've got to be willing and able to tweak it.
But as ihavenoaudi says below, next year may be different. I think it'll have a decent shot in Stock against the Type R.

That's what I expected to hear:
but, in a way, it's good news for me. See, I have certain things I'd like to mod that would take me out of S and into SP. But not far enough into SP to be competitive. So, if I'm not going to be competitive in either class, I might as well bolt on the goodies I have in mind and just have fun.
I love rationalizing the purchase of car stuff. (I just can't rationalize going all the way to SM, despite how much I covet your car.)

Good news is SCCA is thinking of moving the S4 to DS next year.
Don't have my Sports Car mag in front of me but in the Fastrrack News the board is reviewing new car classifications for next year.
Pretty sure it was DS. They didn't have any of the SP, P or Mod classes listed, only stock.
My reaction was OUCH! DS?

I run A stock here in NY...
and I have had decent results. I have 3 2nds in the last 3 races, I keep losingg to the same S2000. Usually, there are about 10 to 12 cars in my class. I only last the last race by a few tenths. All the courses have been tight, so I'm waiting for a course that is a little more open, because I think then I can compete.
I am running Kumho v700's. Without the tires, the car is compltetly outclassed. I'm also going to try 5MM spacers, and koni adjustables. I think the konis will really help to balance the car out. As youprobably know, the car understeers like crazy with the stock suspension.
Next year, I think we are actually going into G stock. We are running with Acura GS-R, Miata, and TT's. We are still gonna have trouble on tight courses, but look out on open courses!
