Has anyone purchased an extended warranty from an Audi dealer?...
My car's warranty is up soon and I am concerned about all the things that could go wrong and figure it is worth paying for an extended warranty (beyond my audi assured) for peace of mind. I saw a little advertisement at my local Audi dealer, but wasn't sure if that was dealer-specific or if Audi Assured can be bought. I haven't heard of anyone buying an Audi warranty, only those third-party nightmare ones.
Thanks in advance for any info!

I haven't but I was considering it...
My car has almost 46k miles on it and at the rate I go my warranty will expire sometime in November. So, I've started looking into it. Since I've heard about trouble with all of the third party companies (going out of business, not honoring claims, etc.) I called my local Audi dealer. They said I can continue my bumper-to-bumper warranty if I sign up before I reach 50k miles (I believe minus the scheduled maintenance though). The options are:
1. 1yr/60k miles (whichever comes first) - $1500.
2. 2yr/72k miles (") - $2800.
3. 3yr/100k miles (") - $4500.
It's nice to have the peace of mind of a bumper-to -bumper provided that you are not heavily modded (mods would alert the dealer and may void that part of the warranty). I'm stage 1 so it's easy to get back to stock for any service.
Warranties are basically insurance policies. It's paying money to allocate your risk away. I'm trying to "out smart" the system by trying to predict what will go wrong in 2 years time and see if that will be greater than the $2800 fee. The warranty is the conservative approach whereas no warranty is riskier. In the last 5k miles I've had my turbos replaced and my brakes replaced (rotors and pads). I think my clutch is on the way out so if I get that replaced before 50k miles. Aside from the synchros, I think all big ticket items will last at least 2 years...so that I'll have to pay less than $2800 in that time on my own. We'll see. With the S4, it's a crapshoot.

Great post .. Thanks .. I see the warranty isn't cheap....
I figure I will buy the 1 year, and go year by year if I can, if they let me ... I lose $200 doing that but it is better than putting out a big chunk.

Autowarrantybroker.com cheapest and best...
I paid about $1800 for a 4 year/100k warranty at 49k miles. Nobody will cover clutches as it is a wear item. Your turbos were the biggest risk part out there.
I think the Audi warranty is too expensive, although it does cover scheduled maintenance visits. Ask if they cover the water pump and timing belt, those alone are about $1500. No third party will cover preventative maintenance, it has to fail first. In the case of the timing belt, that can be even worse for the engine.

Good point about the timing belt. Doesn't the Audi schedule say 90k miles for that?
If so, I doubt they'll cover it before then (unless it breaks). Does the water pump and timing belt really cost $1500? Damn.

actually they kinda cover clutch if you have "bad" flywheel
sometimes there is this clanking noise as car shuts down (it can be caused by a number of things - dual mass flywheel is one of em) - the dealer will replace clutch and flywheel assemblies under warranty
also can always call AoA - dealers seem to fear them (threaten not to give dealer 5 stars on their evaluation or somethin -worked for me number of times) - don't think you can call AoA if third party warranty
my 2cents
