Has AW disillusioned me? How did I get the idea that a stock S4 can hang with a vette?
I've read so many posts over the last couple years about the "S4 vs _____" that I can hardly keep things straight. But I coulda swore I always remembered a lot of people saying that they could give vettes a decent race (disclaimer: I am NOT promoting street racing). Anyway, my neighbor has a 2001 Corvette and when my gf's nephew saw it the other day he was like "wow" and I made some comment such as "well, it's not THAT fast, the S4 would give him a run for his money". But it occurred to me today to check into that more and looking back at used cars on Edmunds I see that the regular vette had 350HP in 2001 and the Z06 had 385HP. Holy crap! The S4 would be breathing exhaust fumes from both of those cars from a distance. I guess reading AW has just poisoined my objectivity, since a lot of people who post "S4 vs _____" stories are heavily modded. I love my stock S4, but you guys do make me jealous sometimes. Sure hope the next mod raffle is for a Stage II+ setup. :-)

I think you just need glasses...
A modded S4 (stage 1 or 2) in it's prime running condition will give a stock vette a run for it's money. The S4 may not win...but it will be on the vette's heels in a straight line.
A Z06? Better have K04's for starters. Whose running around here killing Z06's? Even the people on this forum would self police any statement that a stage 1 or 2 S4 took a Z06.
