Headlight ignitor problem...please help!
I had the dealer diagnose my problem i was having with the passenger side headlight... basically it wasn't working after the stormy weather we had this weekend, and there was quite a lot of condesation in the housing. Anyhow, they found the problem to be the ignitor and they want $400 for the part then another $250 to put it in!
So what are my options AW? assuming i dont want to spend much more than it would cost to fix.
I looked at the SPP Stage III lighting kit as a replacement. But i STFA and found that some people had issues with their ignitors. Also does that kit even work with stock (non Euro) housing?
Or should i just look into getting a replacement for the ignitor elsewhere... ie ECS or from SPP without the rest of the kit?
Anyone with similar problems please let me know which route you took. TIA

Went with the 50w upgrade since I already had them when my stock ballasts were soaked
upside to the 50w ballasts is the slight waterproofing in the form of epoxy or silicone sealant covering the circuitry.
They do sometimes have trouble restriking when hot, may have to wait 10-20 seconds if they don't restart. As long as you don't stall at night, and you turn the lights on AFTER starting the car, you wouldn't notice it.
Stock ballasts are at the bottom of the housing and aren't not sealed on the housing side, so any water that gets in the housing will pool in the ballast, poof!
Only cheaper way out would be to look for a used set of phillips/osram/hella/etc ballasts on ebay, or you may get lucky and find audi ballasts.

Go with the upgrade. I was one of the people having problems
with the Stage III kit but it turned out it was a faulty bulb that kept fryin' my ignitors. The difference between stock and the SPP kit is night and day. Plus, SPP's customer service is wonderful.
I know next to nothing about these cars and I was able to install the SPP kit myself. Save your $250 on install charges and do it yourself.

lol Yeah I went through a few ballasts before we figured out what the problem actually was.
But no worries about the SPP kit. At the very least Eric will make sure you're taken care of.
