headlight started acting up early this week. was driving and all of a sudden the headlight malfunction light came on and driver side headlight was out. next time i turned the car on, the error light was gone and headlight was working.

since then the malfunction light has randomly come on about 3 more times, and ill just turn the headlights off while driving for a couple seconds and back on, and the headlight will be on again and error light gone.

any idea if this is a ballast dying out or just a headlight bulb that might need replacement? besides this problem, both headlights seems to be giving off the proper amount of light & "color"

If the problem moves, its the bulb. If not, its the ballast.

2nd. I'd guess the bulb (only because it's cheaper than a ballast!)
