Which heads, etc., with the aluminium 3.0L block? 2.4L, 2.8L, 2.7L or RS4 ???

Skipping it certainly would make life easier.
As Mike says, then it would be possible to just use the stock 2.7L valves.
You wouldn't even bother enlarging the intake valves if it were possible?

Kinda the way I see it is we have the 3 valves anyway, lots of open area for the
intake charge. I'd maybe try to keep them open a little longer vs enlarging, of course you'll have to take part throttle variables into consideration with more duration or lift... guess if money is no object I'd enlarge them provided they could be enlarged in the first place.

You think the 2.8L exhaust valves might be sodium filled?
What I heard was that the 2.7L were meant to be sodium filled but maybe not all of them are. I'm not sure that on the stock engine with stock power and such small valves it was really necessary. It would be just like Audi to release the S4 with lots of publicity of sodium filled valves and then stop using them later to save money (just as they did with the aluminium wheel hub carriers).
We're in total agreement on the rev limit and for all of the same reasons. I'm always happy when you agree with my thinking on this sort of thing. It makes me a lot more confident that I'm on the right track.
I haven't got to the rods/pistons yet. I have yet to do the research and know absolutely nothing about it. But I do consider that the weakest link is going to be the connecting rods so this is definitely an area I will need to pay attention to. The 3.0L pistons and rods are crap so something good will need to go in there.
Thanx for the thoughts Mike! :-)

That's what I was thinking I would need to do ...
<center><img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/album531/30L_28heads1.jpg"></center><p>I didn't think it would be a real problem. Just a matter of a little thinking and a little machining.
What about the water plumbing? Do you think that will be a problem?? Again, I don't know enough about the differences yet though I'm assuming it is something that can be dealt with.
Here is another photo. I'll add a couple more on the link in a few minutes.

The intake valves are prolly the same as the 2.7t...
The exhaust valves prolly aren't. Those suckers are like $60 a piece. I don't think they would cheap-out on those on the 2.7t though
Glad to be of help, this is a really an exciting project!

You mean ...
I don't know about Audi. I think that they would sell their grandmothers to save $60 a valve. :-p
I agree. This is going to be a really exciting project. I'm looking forward to it!
