Default Heh! Surprised and was applauded by a Z28 driver.

I was out having fun in my car, just driving around mixing it up between blasting down curvy backroads and cruising bigger roads, when I saw a Z28 driving slightly spiritedly. I immediately tailed him around some turns and through a couple lights - just keeping up. He got the picture after a minute and met me at a stoplight, no doubt thinking that that me in my wagon just wanted to see a Z28 in action, not seriously compete.

Soft launches for both of us and we were off! Right away he pulled ahead about a length (damn turbo lag!) but I held him there at which point he c-r-e-p-t ahead about another length or two before we had to shut it down somewhere in fourth gear. The story was repeated twice more, and the third time I tried a Quattro launch but I bogged it. Regardless, he actually applauded me after the first run, and we exchanged a wave and a thumbs up after we parted ways. He definitely won, but my (bone stock) Avant certainly made a good showing!

I did have a little more fun later. I wasn't really trying to race, but there was a Prelude ahead of me that was being driven quickly, but not flat-out...at one point I decided to pass him and as I swept by in fourth (a relatively high gear for the 40-60mph I was travelling at the time) I heard the sound of a VTEC in full song...but it was no contest of course. The driver gave me a thumbs up from the turn lane at the next light though. :-)

A good day.

Default Yeah those Z's are a little too much to handle for a stock S4.

However, after a couple bolt-ons (chip and downpipes) your situation would have been flip flopped.

Default more than a little

C&D ran a 5.2 in a convertible Z28 with an automatic. Coupes are slightly faster. Sticks are slightly faster. If the other person has both...

A stick S4 can get there with a fair amount of work. Your best bet is a bad driver of course.

Default Too true. But the reaction I get when they see what my *wagon* can do is just priceless. :-)

I don't think I'll be chipping 'til my warranty runs out though. Then, if my financial situation allows it, I'd like to go for a stage 4 upgrade. :-) To be honest though, if I do have that kind of money, I'll probably end up just getting a chip and spending the rest of it on driving instruction and a dedicated track car.

Why is it NO ONE ever gives me the ol' thumbs up? How old do you have to be to qualify?

Default I've been against Z's in stock form...and F355's in chipped mode :) heheh

If ya get a good launch, it's a run for the money. In chipped form, Z's usually aren't a problem.

Especially on the highway, SS camaros have tasted my good ol K03 fumes.

The MOST fun i ever had on the highway was with an F355. Rolling from about 70mph we went at it a couple of times. After doing this for a while, we finally came up on a nice striaght stech of freeway...i was spooled nice in 4th gear, ready to hit 3rd....i hear the signature Ferarri 'click click' as he down shifted, and that's when i grabbed 3rd gear and nailed it.

I ran 3rd to 7100rpm and both cars shifted at the same time. I was amazed that i was hanging with the F-car!!! Topped out 4th gear, and then went to 6th and shut it down.

The guy in the F355 did'nt like me much at that point, and flew by me doing at LEAST 140mph...guess he didn't like my brake lights in his face

He pulls off the next exit, and i follow him...get next to him to talk a little bit.....i got the dirtiest look from the bastard. No wave, no thumbs up no nothing, he lights up his rear tires and takes a right turn.. i go back on the freeway laughing hysterically because i just realized what i had done. A bonafied sports car that costs well over 100k could not pass a 42k 4 door SEDAN

I can only image the reaction you Avant guys get when ya hand their asses to Z28's, Stangs and hopefully some F355's :-D

Default Cool. I had a run in with one yesterday also.

I don't take any of them lightly. Never know which one is about the pull the paint off your doors. The guy I raced was pretty damn cool though.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/335501.phtml</a

I'm 26, I generally get a thumbs up or a wave or something.
