hehehehe...Chevy Silverado Pickup vs. 996...
some young guy at a stoplight in front of me in a shiny black Chevy Silverado (pretty sure that was what it was)...well the light changes and he absolutely TAKES OFF. Well, not being one to disappoint, I take off after him...
Wind out first...hmmm this gap really isn't closing...through second...DOOH hit the limiter...only a little closer...get into the meat of 3rd (must be doing about 70 now) the 4 carlengths disappears and I pull 2 carlengths on him before having to slow down.
Well we sort of get to the next light next to each other and behind traffic and he rolls his windows down and says "****...is that thing fast!" as though the idea that a 911 might not remotely be? I was sort of dumbfounded but managed a nice "ah well...I cant tow anything with it ;-)".
Got ahead of him at a light and did a "demonstration" launch to which he did not reply then we happened to be next to each other and the light changed and I wasn't really thinking but he LAUNCHES but I only take off a tad after him (sort of a 5mph to...) and it takes me till the top of 2nd to get ahead of him hehehehe.
Man, if he'd quit at 60...he'd have a whole different story to tell his buddies hehehehehe. Since we never really "drag raced" in the sense that we were set and revving etc...his instant-on low-geared torque was a match for the peaky 996 winding its way through it's power band in its leisurely fashion till 4600rpm.

Boy that must have beena weird feeling? Like ok, I should be passing you now?? hmmm not getting
closer?
what's inthose nowadays? 454? 320 hp? but still for a truck to do that. Would it really be just a stock silverado?

hehehe nawww...I'm used to it. The 996 doesn't get going till 3rd...
and you REALLY have to launch it with revs to get anywhere like the 0-60 times magazines do.
I never cease to be amazed by how fast modern cars/trucks are.

yes, the torque peak is 4600rpm and redline is 7200 so...
if you are trying to accelerate anywhere outside 4600rpm, it's a long wait. At 4200rpm the car only has 190hp.

He must have seen that commercial where...
...the BIG truck (I forget the make) passes a 996 going up a mountain road while pulling a trailer. A complete parody! The commercial ends with the truck coming up behind some other sport car and the wife/passenger of the truck looks at her truck driving husband and says, "not another one of these."
I laughed out loud when I saw it a couple of weeks ago.

yea though that was a Dodge Durango...It was a strange...
thing to pick a fight with a 996 in a Silverado but they at least made that thing good to 60..after that it was all over but I bet he rapes unsuspecting Mustangs in that thing hehehehe.
