Default use a screwdriver wrapped in a thin cloth (no scratches on the paint)

and pry the tabs from the backside of the grill

I have always used just my hands. It helps if the plastic is warm (right after driving).

Default start from one side of the grill, working one tab at a time, work accross the grill, then lift

straight up and out...the key is starting from one corner working accross. apply outward pressure as you work accross the grill freeing each tab, the outward pressure will keep the previous feed tabs from falling back into their previous locked position.

I like to use needle nose pliers. Just pinch the flaps together and push out with the other hand.

Not so much up, as out. The hood release is easy once out of the hood.
