Yesterday, I came back to my parked car and it wouldn't start. I would hear ticking. Just a couple warning lights flickered. I got a boost and the car would sort of work fine, but in certain circumstances, the lighting would flicker, like if the revs dipped low. When I flick my turn signal, the HID would cut out and the bulb warning came on. I drove for about 20 minutes to a gas station.

So I turned off the engine at the gas station and when I tried to restart it, no start. Same as previous problem. When I got it boosted, the car runs.

I bought a new battery this morning but haven't put it back in yet.

Anyone know why the car can start and keep running when I get boosted? Wouldn't the battery be recharging with the alternator as I'm driving? There is no electrical power the minute I turn off the car.

A dead battery wouldn't hold a good charge, even if the alternator was charging it.

the battery isnt just discharged, it has one or more bad cells.

Replace the battery and go from there....battery is probably dead and won't accept a charge...

I put in a new battery and everything seems fine now. I was just suprised that it drives normally as long as you don't turn off the car. It also suddenly died while the car was parked for 3 hours, so I was wondering if this pointed to some other electrical problem.
