HELP PLEASE ......s4 cranks but won't start
 

car has been sitting for 3 years the battery died and I replaced it with a non factory battery - the key fob was not working so I also replaced the batteries in it ....cant find the other key fob I only have one ......

please advise....

No "engine" codes are being shown. The low battery voltage is typical for battery on/off/jumpstarting

Back to basics for troubleshooting since there are no codes.

Fuel up to the rail?

Spark from coil packs? (could be anything including crank sensor, oil sensor, etc)

Or, reallly back to basics, is the timing belt actually intact?

What do the plugs look like?

Was the motor ever out of the car? (loose ground?)

Back to basics is right ,....looking into fuel, spark, air.
but the engine has never been out ...
It does have the giac chip though ? will that screw things up .
I've re-seated it with no results ..
the fuel level sensor is sending a code and the gauge is showing empty with ten gallons inside.
will that kill the start ?

you should be able to hear the pump "prime" when the ignition is turned forward (right before the crank position)

Additionally, fuel should be present at the fuel rail. Crack open one of the lines after priming the pump and it should readily leak out.

I tried Listening out for the pump while a friend turned the key to the on position and I couldn't hear anything I tried hitting the tank as well to get it going but nothing ...I really hope it's not the pump or the fuel level sensor like the VAG might suggest but I still haven't checked the fuel rail

The pump is easy to hear when the key is turned forward to "on".

Probably a dead fuel pump. No noise would confirm that. There is no code for a dead fuel pump.

I'll research that this week and get into the fuel rail to see if the pump is sending any fuel ... next will be spark if all is good
