Help w/S4 pricing/dealer...
I'm polling to find out how much '01 S4s are going for
now - or how much below MSRP.
A dealer was telling me I could get a '01 S4 (w/prem,
Bose, cold, tip) for $39500 before really negotiating further.
He now tells me it was actually a '00 model we were talking
about. Also he says they can only do $500 below MSRP
for an '01.
I kinda wanted an '01, but if I could get it cheap enough,
I may go for that one instead. Has anyone recently purchased
an '00 and what was your deal?
Thanks!
DougA4

Re: Help w/S4 pricing/dealer...
DougA4,
Depends on where you're at and their competition. I'm getting a lot better deal around here (midwest) but if you're in Seattle or L.A., your dealer is probably about right.

In Wash. DC area, just MSRP or maybe $500 lower when you push is common. Leave town by 30 to 100 miles and you can get $1500-2000 off MSRP. That's on a 2001 S4 with Prem,Bose,Nav to be ordered. Based upon my shopping in mid-July.
You can get anywhere in 10 minutes if you drive fast enough.

Better deals with cheap pairings...
After visting 6 Audi dealers looking for the best deal, one pattern emerged. Porsche (or Mercedes or BMW)/Audi dealers had little or no discount, Audi/(Ford, etc.) dealers gave the most discount. Seems to be that dealers want to make about the same amount per sale. If they're used to making $4000+ per car, they want it for Audi's too. If they sell Fords (or whatever) for $1000 profits, Audi's will be priced better. My $.02!
You can get anywhere in 10 minutes if you drive fast enough.

Search around for $1500 under MSRP
You might need to search. I have found that the high end dealers in metro areas charge list period! If you can find a dealer in a smaller area you should be able to get a better deal.
David J
