Default HELPPP... wheel/tire combo problems

I'm running into all kinds of issues with my S4.

Here's my situation:

I am currently running Sumitomo 225/40/18's on Ronal 18x8's (18x8? not sure but I think that's it). The wheels poke out of the tires a little, something I'm not a fan of. I recently purchased Continental's -- 245/40/18's -- a size that apparently, many people with stock suspension S4's have used without any problems. I had them mounted and there was almost instant rubbing on the back of the tire. With the 225's on the 18s, there was maybe 3/4" there.

What's the best solution here? Spacers? How did you guys who ran this combination do it?

My other set of wheels are Ace Lola's -- 17x7.5 (again, I THINK, since this set is not in my possession right now).

Which option would you use?

A) Ronal 18x8's with 245/40/18's and spacers (if so, what size?)
B) Ronal with a narrower tire (what size?)
C) Ace Lola's 17x7.5's with 225/45/17s (stock?)
D) Ace Lola's with a wider size tire?

HELP!!

Default rubbing on the back of the tire?

Do you mean the inside of the tire at control arms? or outside at the fenders?

In the rear? If so, raise the car or run a spacer

Default 245/40/18 is way to big for our cars even on stock suspension.

235/40/18 is more common for cars with conservative drops or stock suspension. If you're going to do 245 a 35 series tire is required to make it fit. There's too much sidewall on a 245/40 to allow it to fit under the control arm.

Default Are you planning to lower your car later?

If so, 235/40 could still be pushing it depending on the brand of tire. There are some guys here who are running that size with minimal rubbing but 245/35 would be safer. Why is 35 series not an option?
