I don't know if this helps or not. The previous owner did this modification.

I do know my engine temperature gauge has never made it past 220F since I've owned it (9 months).

thanks man! i cut two scoops in mine right before the oil pan, seems to work really well

Default The original shape is an airduct that promotes airflow. That's probably less effective.

Mine has never gone past 220 either. Maybe synthetic oil.

Sounds more likely. Thanks for the data point. Most folks temps are higher that I've seen.
