Default HID vs H7

My headlights are continually getting stolen. I'm wondering what headlights I have and if I could put in some cheaper ones that won't get stolen. Any ideas?

Default I wonder if the thieves even know the difference?

i.e. they'll probably steal them anyway only to toss them later when they realise that they aren't HID.

Why not try to swap with one of out Canadian friends? Their cars came standard without HID. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find someone who would be willing to trade with you.

Only way to know what you currently have is to look. :-p

The first time I got them replaced I was told it cost 670 for one assembly and 180 for the bulb. The assembly has an H7 on it does this mean these are the cheaper lights vs the HID, and How can I tell the difference. These lights are getting stolen all over Boston.

The lights in the S4 have two bulbs. They are actually only low-beam HID. The high beam is a H7. Highbeam is inboard and the lowbeam is outboard. Both have small covers which you can unclip.

Default The hids will kinda POP on and maybe make a high pitched whine.

The H7 and Hid lights are pretty much identical from the outside. They're just going to keep getting stolen. :/

The ones in the picture above might not get stolen since they look different. I wouldn't put them on my car though

Default If he is smart he can ... but how many smart thieves do you know?

I can tell instantly just by looking in from the front. Not difficult when you know what you are looking at. Take a look from the front and compare the high beam with the low beam and you will see.

I have a suggestion ... swap the badges on your car for A4 1.8T or A4 2.8 badges. Those cars did not normally come with HID. So the thieves are going around the city looking for S4's. They will ignore your A4. :-)

Default Sure...

All of the damage is being done solely to save the $180 price of the HID bulbs.

They will throw away the entire light unit save for the bulb. They will then stuff the bulb into a unit intended for a different type of bulb. They end up with a light which is improperly focused and almost useless for seeing where they are going. Hey, but it has the right colour to it and lights up the way that it has to so that everyone knows that they have HID. :-)
