Default How do you smog test a Quattro in CA?

Does anyone know how a S4 (or any Quattro car) is tested for smog in CA? I think smog tests in CA uses dynos. Is there a special place to go for the all-wheel drive smog tests or is there an exception?

Thanks.

Default They do? Since when? Some other states do, but most CA smog stations are not fitted with

Dynos yet. Either way, AWD cars are excempt from Dynamic smog testing. Just the old tailpipe sniffer

I wish we had a dyno when I had my smog lisence back in '92. Hmmp

Default They do not use a dyno to smog your car. I've smoged my VW a number of times

And they never put it on a dyno. They just hook up the sensor to your ehaust, a pick up to a spark wire and rev your engine up to within a rpm range.

Default Not in MA as of 10/99...I think state laws can be tougher than federal laws for pollution stds?

We had new inspection standards go into effect 10/99. AWD cars are NOT exempt and they have to go on a special device to accomodate all 4 wheels to test the emissions at speed.
