How many of you owns a DH mountain bike and how you carry it on your S4? THX

I am going to get an Intense M1 and since it weights over 40lbs, I don't think its a good idea to put it on the roof rack. Does anyone of you own a DH mountain bike and how you guys carry it on your S4? If possible, can you please post some photos? Thanks a lot!!

I've got a 46 pound Santa Cruz that goes right on my rack. Real bitch to get it up there, but..

once it is, its fine. Alot of wind noise. Be careful bro, DH bikes car REALLY f#ck you up. Make sure you have a full set of motorcross pads.

I have a Cannondale. I use a Yak rack with two bike mts.

and two fork mts so the profile of the car is lower. But I also have an Avant..

it should be fine on the roof..i put 2 mtn bikes on my roof rack all the time

Andy Hedin 11-14-2001 09:41 AM

Not a DH MTB, but I carry my MTB on my Avant and my A4 sedan....

...without any problems at all, I use a Yakima rack system and have no complaints with it. I've had two bikes on the rack on long trips without issue.

I have a Schwinn Moab 1 and use a Thule 415 kit to hold it

Intense? That's what I have....

Well, except I have a Tracer. Very nice bike you're getting. I use a thule and it works fine. I wouldn't hesitate to get a yakima either. One thing I do to avoid marring up the roof caused by the footpads and fairing is to put a patch of static-cling window tint under each contact point. The tint seals out dust, dirt, and water, so your paint stays protected.

Nice Bike!

When I was looking for a complete set-up I considered the Truth. I couldn't pull the weight (cash) though.....I bought an Intense Tracer that I am extremely happy with.

Happy Riding!

Do you have a Super8? Still I don't know how to put a 42 pound bike on my roof..

But thanks for your response.

01S4 11-14-2001 01:23 PM

I am getting a 2002 M1, it is about 42-45 pound.

Thing is DH bike does not have quick release for the front / rear wheel. So you can not just pop out the front wheel and put it on the roof rack. I think I need to buy another bike holder that fits at the back....

Thanks for your response tho

Andy Hedin 11-14-2001 01:28 PM

Intense Tracer is very nice as well!

Andy Hedin 11-14-2001 01:29 PM

Nah, Yakima and Thule have racks that mount the bike without removing the front wheel.

MUCH more secure versus any rack that you hang off the back (except perhaps a hitch rack).

Funny trivia - Most of you who are piloting Schwinn's are riding bikes I designed.

I worked there for nearly 5 years designing frames for Schwinn & Yeti... now I'm just a Opto-Electronic Engineer chump, but at least I'm driving an S4!! ($$ in the bike biz sucks)

Thought you might appreciate the tidbit.
