Default how much should K04s add to the value of an S4 when selling?

Im not talking about an entire stage 3 kit, just brand new KO4s and Induktion oil lines. The alternative would be original k03s with almost 50k miles on them. id imagine this would appeal only via private sale to someone who knows what they are buying, but Id be selling privately.

thanks

I ask b/c my turbos have sounded like they have been failing for 10k miles now, but have yet to blow when running stock boost. The question is do i sell now and tell the buyer that the car could blow at any time, or do i replace (I do the labor, not a shop) and sell with K04s. The car will most likely go to someone I know, so Id feel pretty awful about selling them a car that breaks.

thanks for any input.

Default i think it mainly depends on the buyer

someone who doesn't know about the K03 history and is looking for a stock car, may not pay extra for the K04's.

Default yeah i understand that. but when selling to a knowledgable buyer

what should i raise the price of the car to account for the parts? i suppose i could just add on the price of the parts and make them feel like theyre getting a deal b/c they dont have to pay for labor when the K03s blow (which they are i think)

selling a car is such a pain in the ***.

Default Here's my $0.02.....

As a seller: You're looking at it as what you'll be spending on it & what you've spent. You think of it as an improvement(which it is), and since a $40k car now has $4k more into it, it should be worth $4k more if it were to sell. So, Kbb private party = $20k, + $4k, = $24k.

As a buyer: someone can negotiate that the car is kelly blue book(Kbb) valued at $20k (for example). Having even brand new K04's doesn't warrant moving it up anymore, but could rather be viewed as good maintenance. At best, it's a strong selling point that the owner took good care, and should make the car easier to sell. So, Kbb private party value = $20k, and anything more would be negotiable, depending on overall appearance & condition of the car.

As an enthusiast: I'd rather buy the car with bad turbos for less, knowing that I'll need to do the work/get the work done, and I can take it to someone who I would like to do the work for me, local to me, that I could be happy with. Buying the car already done, for say - $24k, or buying the car for $18k, and spending $6k building it the way I want it, I'll be happier.

In comparison, I've got over $60k into my A4, just in parts costs for the modifications, and I would have a hard time selling it for $15k. Stage 3 S4's are obstacles on the track, yes.

You're lucky to get 50% back from your mods. Come on - let's face it - it's a very select group that even care. On top of that the mods make you wonder how hard the car was driven - was it 1/4 mile'ed, street raced, etc.

Don't put mods on thinking you'll get the money back.

Default I wouldn't do the swap if you're going to sell it right away. I don't think I'd pay anything extra

for K04's installed by the previous owner. No offense, but turbo replacement is just too big a job to risk buying something with any doubts about the quality of the work. So for me, hearing that you had just replaced the turbos yourself would be reason to find another car.

Default ok ill have to keep that in mind if i sell it to someone i dont know

but to be honest a turbo swap on this car is long and a pain in the ***, but not actually technically demanding or difficult. IMO anyone who has decent knowledge of car mechanics can do one, it just takes some time.

Default That may be true, but given how many truly simple car repairs are screwed up...

there are just too many variables when you are disassembling the car that much. And the buyer wants to know that they have some recourse if things go south 30 days later.
