how much time would it take for a chipped S4 to get to 100mph?

Nah, but it might be ahead with the M3 gaining on it from behind...
...in that case the M3 might have a faster 0-MPH time even though it is behind and has a slower 0-distance time. Put a catback exhaust on that chipped S4 and maybe a 12 flat. Add downpipes and maybe a low 11.

Exactly. toasty, your not considering time to distance, just time to speed
I run against many cobras that are slighly modded a the track, and they run 110-112 inthe 1/4, but run 13 flats. So they are pulling 4-6mph more than I am, but I am equal with them in time.
The fastest car from 0-100 is not always the fastest car in teh 1/4.
I have a friend with a 69 camaro that turns 10.80's at 118mph . A 911turbo is close in speed, but almost 1.5 seconds behind. The camaro alsp pulls 1.2 60 ft times, by the way.
Gearing and launch traction have everything to do with it. The M3 starts pulling on the S4 in third gear, chipped/exhausted S4 vs a stock M3, both on pump gas. You also have to consider that the S4 is easier to get the most out of down the track, as the torque overcomes a majority of shift inconsistencies that the less torquey, higher reving M3 cannot easily overcome.
There is no doubt a chipped S4 with exhaust is slower than an M3 at some point, it's just when you reach that point. Your tip, by the way, is fighting three issue. One, the auto tranny gearing is not as aggressive, two, the auto tranny car weighs more, three, you cannot get the type of lead building launch on an M3 that a 6spd (well driven) can. tips don't run 1.7 60 ft times, rarely faster than 1.95, so a well drien 6spd puts two to three more lengths on an M3 than a fast tip. Then you factor in weight and gearing, and you have a 5-6 length lead over a tip car at the end on the 1/4 mile. This is five to sizx more lengths the M3 has to make up, which takes anohter 15-30mph to make up.
I have walked on many M3's at the grove, and on the street, but never above 120mph. But, I was not being pulled on at 120mph. He may have come by me at 130 (who knows), but when he runs out of top end at 155mph, I've got about an another 20mph to go.
So if he wants to lead me by 1-3 lengths from 130-15mph, I'll take that, as that race happens about once to twice over the entire ownership of the car.
