How Rod Operated Wastegates Work
All 2.7tt and 1.8t motors use the integral (as apposed to external) wastegate to regulate boost control. There is a rod, connected to a diaphram, that has spring pressure on one side, and a hose connected to the other. The spring keeps the WG flap closed. Then during boost, a percentage of the boost is fed to the opposite side of the WG diaphram, that opens the flap.
The boost is regulated by the Wastegate Frequency Valve (PN 078906283B). 2 hoses come from that valve towards the turbo WG (078145742BD/AQ). Then 2 assemblies (078145718AB/AA) connect BD/AQ to the WG. They aren't showing this assembly as "serviceable", but it has two rubber hoses at the end of a solid line that actually attaches to the WG. My bet on Spoolin S4's car, is that the tech wants to check the two lines near the turbo, since they are exposed to the most heat.
