How to tell if 2001.5???!!!

What's an easy way to tell if you have a 2001.5 or 2001 S4??? VIN number???? AWETuning is saying to look at the ECU, but I'm trying to find an easier way.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

03/2001 and newer is 2001.5

Are you badges "S4" or the Audi sport parallegram?

If you are a 6 speed, do you have an Fhose underneath the passenger diverter valve?

Build date 5/01 Sticker said 2002

Why? Does it make a difference? Were there any changes mid-year for '01?

The badge changes and F-hose people are talking about were early in the '01 model year I think, so most of those would have actually been manufactured in '00. As far as I know, my 03/01 build date is considered a regular '01 model year.

Does anyone know if the rumored chip change actually did occur? I've heard that mid model year they started putting chips in the S4 that had the ignition cutoff, making them 2001.5 but I don't have any confirmation whether that's true or not. I know my car doesn't have it and haven't heard any good evidence for it, yet I have heard the rumor from a couple different sources.

so were 2001.5's only made for 2 months?

If they start in 3/01 and ended in 5/01 does that mean all us 01.5'ers will have a hell of a time getting spares of some small subset of parts or are 02's and 01.5's the same mechanicaly?

I think all B5 S4's are pretty much the same...

As far as I know there were only three model years: 2000, 2001, and 2002 (with the possibility that some were actually designated 2001.5, but not sure). There were some differences at times, such as in the second-half of 2000 when the 2001's started coming out I think they did the F-hose thing, may have changed some oil lines, and started changing the badging. And of course the stock tires have changed at least once for sure, but I think twice actually. I'm fairly certain that all B5 S4's are identical enough that parts should not be a problem for any of the modely year designations. At least I don't know of any major changes that were made. Rest easy and enjoy this awesome car!

I have a 2001.5 with new badging etc. with a 12/00 build date.

Where on your car does it say "2001.5"?

Or are you just saying that it was made mid-way through the 2001 model year? My S4 was built 03/01 and I have never seen something that would indicate to me that the model year was designated 2001.5. Does your stock chip have the ignition cutoff built-in? Mine doesn't and I still haven't found anyone that does.

i thought all 'M' chipped cars were 01.5 and the 'H' chips were 01.0

other alledged 01.5 changes:
- no f-hose
- upgraded/bigger turbo oil lines
- funky angled shifter bottom
- new badges?
- different TBB?

the last two may have been changes at other times.
