Default DSMs vary widely in how fast they are. Stock v. stock S4 wins by a good margin, but put a decent

size turbo (16G is a popular upgrade) then the DSM wins (after getting pasted at the start because the S4's AWD will kill the GST's wheel-spinning launch). Put a monster turbo and all the goodies that go along with it and a the old body style will run 11s and the new body style will run 12s.

Lightly modded GST's are palatable, watch out for the ones running 12's at the track!

Default you're so right, those DSM's can vary big time...I've seen anything from 11.7 sec 1st gen talons to.

mid 14 sec. FWD ones..

Default Stock vs. Stock GST with only a blow off valve is practically the same as stock S4 vs. stock GST,S4

wins. Blow off valve just helps to protect your turbos...and keep boost...It's not like the GST put some real mods in the car. Watch out for the GSX's (awd and boosted). First investigate and find out what exactly he has in his car....if he only has the valve,Race him and beat him off the line...beat him for good =)

Default PS: DSMs are closed loop intakes like the S4 so venting the BOV to atmosphere runs like crap. You

can really here the DSM divertor valves (like our but EVERY DSMer calls theirs a blow-off valve) when they release pressure - especially with an open element air filter. So most people think they have BOVs when they just have teh stock diverter valves (the newer care need to be retrofitted with the old car valves at the new car valves leak above 12-13 psi or so).

Default There are at least two guys running 9s w/o spraying in stock configuration, but you are right in

that a stock 2G is a mid-14 second car. There are dozens of guys running 10s and hundreds running 11s, but on pump gas, most are nice 13 second cars.

I beat an older DSM at the drag strip in my 1990 Geo Prizm, and that ran 17.2.
