I actually fixed something myself this weekend..............
for the last three weeks, every time the ambient outside temp. dropped below 40 deg. f., the low washer fluid warning icon would come on, even though the washer fluid tank was full and all the washers operated properly.
What to do?
asked audi tech if i needed to replace the low washer fluid sensor. he said yes, over time, the contacts on the sensor can "crystalize" (as he said this, i'm thinking b.s.) and cause a false reading. (apparantly the sensor has two little electodes that protrude into the washer tank and the wiper fluid completes the circuit)
saturday morning,i siphoned off the washer fluid from the washer tank and observed that the sensor electrodes had a bluish looking hue to them.
i took an old toothbrush, taped it to a wire coat hanger, sprayed a little radio shack contact cleaner on the bristles and proceeded to brush the caked on crud off of the electodes. refilled washer tank and started car. no more low washer fluid warning!
my fix appears to be working, no problems for two days, even with morning temps around 30 deg. f.
total time spent on my fix, 1 hour.
10 minutes to drain washer tank, clean contacts and refill.
50 minutes to fish toothbrush out of the deep reccesses of washer tank after it fell off of coat hanger. :-P
