I am SO confused! why isn't my VDO boost gauge visable at night?

I am SO confused! why isn't my VDO boost gauge visable at night?
I poste awhile back about my boost gauge being so dim I could barely see it, and mjtaylor hooked me up with an LED bulb to try for free -thanks again man u rock! but that doesn't seem to make a difference and infact it is more dimly lit now with the LED than it was with the incandescent. so heres the question: I just went out and took the kick panel off to check wiring,,,i checked the grounds, i checked the connections,,,no difference. I then thought maybe it could be that i have 2 devices running out of the 75X post: a Turbo timer and the boost gauge, but i took out the TT wiring and it still is dimely lit. I am dumfounded...what else can i try?? TIA, Will

well, my bulb didn't come with the condom initially, so it was yellowish dim light but then mjtaylor
sent me the red LED and now it is red, but it is even more dim than just the plain incandescent light bulb.
