Default APR advises that...

...if you plan to get a Tip Chip for use with their engine chip, you should order one that does NOT remap the shiftpoints, because APR does that from the ECU. (I theorize that they do this by "lying" to the TCU about engine speed.) If you also remap w/a Tip Chip, you will confuse things mightily.

Default Actually...

The tip-chip itself is supposed to be BETTER for the transmission than stock, in terms of longevity. Additionally, there are several Stage II+ S4 Tips which have run that way since inception without issue. In fact, I've read about several broken 6 speeds, and never a broken (S4)Tiptronic...

But... that's just me.

The M3 is mighty nice, but so is the S4. I hope your motor lasts longer than the other 88+ broken ones in the US. I wouldn't "plan on having the car too long" if I were you, either.

Default does the MTM chip remap the shift points?

Default I don't know for sure...

Are you talking about their engine chip, or do they have a Transmission chip as well?

APR is the only tuner that remaps shift points from the ECU, as far as I know.

Default Re: I don't know for sure...

So what's so bad about remaping the Shift points? I mean, does that give the car more "spunk" ?

Default I called APR and they said that their chip does not remap shift points...

They said did make changes because earlier chip caused problems with gear hunting in higher gears but that their chip does not remap shift points.

Default Re: Actually...

the reason why im ditching my S4 (other than the fact that the m3 is a better car overall) is that WHEN my turbos blow or the trans goes i am not willing to accept the consequences of chipping (ie: paying 7k for new turbos) For me, getting the tip to begin with was my biggest mistake. the M3 gives me everything i want performance wise without having to mod it out and void my warrenty. If audi were to offer some tuning warrenty i probobly would not be getting teh m3 right now.
