I just replaced my OEM 710As with 710Ns. I checked the 710As using the poor man's vacuum pump (push on piston, cover nipple, see if piston returns to original position) and BOTH "failed", whereas both the 710Ns held their position. As a matter of fact, I could even push on the piston WHILE covering the nipple on both valves.

In the course of my investigation, I noticed a film of oil in the return lines of both valves. The passenger side was not too bad, but I could coat the tip of my finger with oil in the driver side line. I know that some oil is fine in these lines, but how much is too much?

Lastly, will bad BPVs throw a CEL? Research in the archives indicates that they may NOT throw a CEL on their own. My concern is that I picked up this car 2 months ago as a CPO and that the system may not have been checked, to include all hoses (boost and vacuum).

This is what my 710N's looked like after 2.5 yrs. of service. Replaced them with new 710N's and driveability is much smoother now. They are cheap enough to replace.
